(27.07.2012) Ballarat (Sovereign Hill, Gold Museum)

Location:

27.07.2012

This is our first visit to Ballarat. As we had only 4 hours, so we decided to see it's main tourist attraction: Sovereign Hill.

Sovereign Hill is an outdoor museum, where you can see Ballarat’s first ten years after the discovery of gold in 1851 when thousands of international adventurers rushed to the Australian goldfields in search of fortune.

Everything was exactly as on a picture above, except weather. It was raining all the times and it was very cold and windy. Anyway, we were amazed by the attention to details. From coach ride, to mine tours, to working machinery of yesteryear.
There are over 300 staff, who work in the stores as they would have during the time from candle making, blacksmiths, gold panning, etc.

After that we went to the Gold Museum, which is located just across the road from Soveregn Hill. We were impressed with the view of valuable collection of gold nuggets, alluvial deposits, priceless gold artefacts and gold coins.

We spent a night at Peppinella Motel. The owner recommended us good place to have a dinner, so after this long and cold day we finally got some warm!

Travel well!
